Some of my work
Friday, August 4th, 2006it’s amazing what you find when you google yourself. i found this.
Pretty cool. She was fun to work with, really sweet, and being gorgeously photogenic helps a lot, too.
Grrr…
Wednesday, June 28th, 2006Feeling unsettled today. There are things on my mind that I can’t even quite wrap my mind around yet. Thoughts and ideas that aren’t fully formed - just lying there on an emotional level inside my brain. Decisions about ideas I can’t make yet, because they haven’t yet progressed into fully-formed thoughts. It’s making me upset. I wish I could verbalize the things I’m thinking and feeling. I don’t even have enough words for it just to vomit them out randomly.
Suck. Anyone else ever feel this way?
It’s not just the boys
Saturday, June 24th, 2006I made pancakes for breakfast this morning for the family. I wanted to do something fun for Judah’s, so we pulled out the cookie cutters. i sprayed them with Pam and then carefully poured batter into them on the griddle. After about four or so tries, I learned that it’s way easier to just make a pancake and then use the cookie cutter to cut whatever it is out of the pancake. (1) The shape actually stays together that way and it’s WAY cleaner, and (2) cookie cutters get hot on a griddle, yo.
I made all of her pancakes pig-shaped. She’s really into Charlotte’s Web these days, although she calls it “Wilbur.” I think Wilbur is a total whiny little snot. It’s always, “I miss Fern,” I don’t want to die,” “Charlotte! Charlotte!” “For your information, Templeton,” and “I can’t stand it here!” Good Lord, he drives me crazy. So freaking selfish.
Regardless, Judah loves Wilbur. So I put her four pig pancakes on a plate and put a little syrup on the side for dipping. She exclaimed, “Wilbur!” and picking up each one in turn, promptly bit all their heads off.
Man, that felt good.
Jesus Band-aids… awww, yeah
Saturday, June 24th, 2006White House says tracking bank data deters terror
Friday, June 23rd, 2006Of course they do. That’s their excuse for everything these days. Geez, guys, it’s getting a little old.
In other impending news of the apocalypse, AT&T now owns you. That’s right, they’d sell you for less than the price of any San Francisco burrito in town.
***UPDATE***
Saturday’s New York Times editorial page says it really well.
Burrito Eater
Friday, June 23rd, 2006Cause there are too many taquerias in this city, and too little time. This site rates them all according to “overall mustache rating.” And just so you know, the picture of the dancing tacos comes from a mural on the taqueria next door to the 25th Street house, where we used to live.
Papalote, in the Mission (of course), has the highest OMR rating, with 8 visits. Anyone who wants to bring me a burrito from there is welcome to at any given time. Just so you know.
I like chicken. And black beans. Make it spicy.
Free public transportation, again
Friday, June 23rd, 2006Two days in a row. Double cool.
Yesterday was HOT. I was already sweating by 9 a.m. It didn’t get much better. But thanks to Amy, Judah and I were able to escape the apartment for the afternoon. One chiropracter visit and Thumbelina at Amy’s house filled the afternoon. Then she dropped us off at Ali Baba’s to meet Joshua for dinner. It’s been too hot to cook in the house, so we’ve not eaten dinner at home for a couple of days. One falafel platter and a lemonade fed all three of us for $8.40. Hard to beat that price, I’ve gotta say.
Judah and I started eating while we were waiting for Joshua to get there. They have this one area that’s closed in on three sides with a low table and cushions on short platform, so you eat just elevated off the floor. Shortly after the munchkin and I sat down, I heard this strange sound from the other side of the little eating area, and I looked over just in time to see a mouse run along the wall and under the other side of the low seats.
i guess if they like the food, it can’t be that bad. It reminded me of the time Joshua and I were in New Orleans and were eating at this bar in the French Quarter called The Alibi. We were at a barstool-height table against the back wall, when a mouse ran out of the corner of the wall, along the brick rail that jutted out from the wall, up to our table, and then turned around and ran back into the wall.
Not exactly the ideal sight you want to see in an eating establishment, but kind of hard to avoid in cities where all the buildings bump up against each other. Just so long as they’re not in my house.
Make your own baby clothes and diapers
Thursday, June 22nd, 2006Because the status quo sucks. Because pastel colors are SO overrated. Because most baby and kids clothes are all the same. Because it’s virtually impossible to find pants that will fit over a cloth diapered baby’s bum without making the poor kid waddle like a duck.
I barely know how to sew. If it weren’t for Joshua’s mom, those curtains would never have happened. Maybe I can start with some blankets and diapers. I feel pattern ordering and trips to the thrift and fabric stores in my future. Oh, and to find a place to get the sewing machine fixed. Anyone in SF know where to go for that?
Passed out
