I go to the one on La Playa, at Ocean Beach. I don't really have a lot of problems there, other than:

I think everything is overpriced unless there's a card special.

The carts are always stuck together.

They stopped carrying Velveeta and Shiner Bock! What's a transplanted Texan supposed to do?!?

That said, the managers are generally good, most employees are usually helpful (love the pharmacists!), and I have my favorite check-out clerks, who remember my kids.

Do you mind me asking which Safeway this was? There is one Safeway in SF (inahempotrerohill) that I have NEVER been able to walk out of w/o being overcharged/mistreated/ignored.... and conveniently they never have a manager on duty either. EVER. WTF?!!! I refuse to go there.

I totally feel you though. I have experienced similar... and it drives me batty every time. And FYI - if you ever catch them overcharging you on an item, you CAN get it for FREE. It is their store policy. Little known but true...

I would have held out to the bitter end, as well. I don't play those games... and it has nothing to do with the money at that point in time. It's three other things:
1 - They have no idea how to do customer service.
2 - I want them to obey their own stupid rules for measly $5 discounts.
3 - They will not out-stubborn me.

Oh. My. Gosh.

Wow. I would write corporate--just copy and paste a lot of what you have here--and try to get some further compensation. I can't believe the manager didn't offer some sort of store credit for your trouble.

I really feel for you, trying to watch the kids while dealing with incompetent people and a faulty system. We don't have Safeway here, so I don't know if that problem is widespread. Do you have Kroger or Dillon's nearby? They have been really good to me. They send me coupons in the mail all the time for stuff I actually buy.

I am so proud that you stuck to your guns, though.
