Stuff

So it’s been too long since I last blogged. I know. It’s been raining here every day for over a week, so it’s kind of yucky, which makes it hard to go outside, get around and do stuff. We’ve spent most of our time at home.

We have gotten out to look at a couple of apartments, none of which look entirely promising. After coming back from our second look-see, we went upstairs to pick up Judah and sat down with everyone to talk about our search. Aside from trying to find a place for ourselves or ourselves with a roommate, we are beginning to talk about several people in the ReImagine community coming together, possibly with the help of donors, and buying a larger space that could serve as communal living space with units for people, including families.

There are several people looking to move to the city in the next few months - singles, couples, and one couple that is also pregnant. So that is another possibility we are looking at.

Speaking of being pregnant, we did the tour at the birth center here on Saturday. the only birth center in San Francisco (and the entire Bay Area, for that matter) is in our neighborhood. It’s okay. It’s no Birth and Women’s Center, that’s for sure, and it was really hard to swallow my disappointment. It took a lot for me not to cry during the first part of the tour.

Oh yeah, the tour. so Adam offered to watch Judah for us while we went. We figured it would take maybe an hour at the most, and if there weren’t many people there, even less. There was only one other couple there besides us, so we’re thinking, cool, we’ll be in and out. Until we get handed the packet of information we’ll be covering that has 16 points to the order of presentation, including a video. The midwife asked if there were any pressing questions before we got started, so i asked how long this would take. THREE HOURS.

Unbelievable. We had to call and make other arrangements for Judah for part of the time, and poor Adam had to come and pick up his car he had let us borrow to get there so he could get ready for a benefit concert he was putting on that night.

We spent the first two hours going over midwifery care vs. OB care, what a birth center is, etc. etc. It felt like a complete waste of our time. I don’t need to be convinced to use a midwife or a birth center. And even for a first time mom, most moms who even consider doing something other than traditional medical-model care do a lot of research and don’t need to be indoctrinated during a tour about things they’ve already learned about on the Internet and from friends. I was not very encouraged.

We’ll probably go there anyway. It’s not like there’s another birth center to choose from, I don’t want to go to a hospital, going back to Texas to have the baby isn’t an option, and Medi-cal will not cover an intended homebirth, so the financial aspect is weighing heavily here as well (we are hoping to get on Medi-cal soon, which will pay for the birth in full). *sigh*

We’ll have our baby, and it will be great and we’ll love it and then we will come home with it and begin its life with us and it will be wonderful, even if the place isn’t our ideal. I’m sure we’ll receive quality care and will be completely satisfied with our experience. I’ll drop by today and pick up a registration packet.

We’d love to hear from people if you get a chance.

Sorry the birth center thing didn’t go as well as you would like. I really hope it gets better for you. At least you have a birth center and don’t HAVE to go to a hospital! I would love to get your new new phone numbers so send them to me when you have a chance. Also, it’s Isaac’s first birthday! *grin* Can you believe it? I know I can’t.

    hearing from me…

so, i can’t access my blog at work now because Websense blocks it (and my wife’s). It says something to the effect that it is blocked because of “Gay, Lesbian, or Bisexual activity”. What is really funny is that I had the screen up on my monitor when the guys from IT logged on to my computer to fix a problem i was having with my printer and they saw the Websense warning. that’s when i had to explain to them, “um, i was trying to look at my wife’s blog and this message came up. and it also come up when i pull up my blog. why is that?”
i felt really akward after that.

also, i was surfing hal sample’s blog today (now whay can i access his and not mine?) and came across the post he has with you doing the shoot for Bride of Christ and it made sense. you guys belong in SF, not dallas. but we’re still sad and wish we had more time with you guys before you left.

okay, you heard from me. goodnight.
