Brad told me that the 1999 Seattle WTO standoff made him think of me the other day. i asked him why. he said:
“love, peace, fair trade. with WTO, mostly the fair trade stuff. from a Christian perspective, I think the parallel is that you have a combination of values that we should not ravage the earth, especially just to make stuff that no one needs except the marketeers who appeal to our base nature to say we are our things; and compassion/justice for workers who are abused by these stoopid systems that pay them pennies when the product brings in many dollars (just like the factory workers during England’s industrial revolution). and sometimes stoopid media who are savy but slant everything in ways that mean deception, not truth. that kind of thing. totally meant as a compliment!”
