New Year’s. I love New Year’s. There’s nothing quite like a fresh start, a “do-over” moment to empower you to get balls rolling in your life. A time to reflect back and see where you were, compare it to where you are now and evaluate who you are becoming. Do you like what you see? Why? What happened over the past year? Do you not like what you see? Do you wonder how little happened or how much could have happened had you recognised the potential? I do. I see a major move, several job changes, a dating relationship, engagement, marriage, and half of a first pregnancy. And that’s all just for me.
I look back and I see where I was a year ago, and what God was knitting together for my life, and hindsight being 20/20 (or at least better that foresight), I see many missed opportunities to dive deeper into Him and into His plan. I see too much selfishness and too much laziness; too much procrastination and too much mistrust. Too much stubborness. Too much pride.
joshua may be a “if your going to resolve for change in your life, do it now” kind of person, but I need these markers of tangible change. I have the ability to keep resolutions. I need these moments of resolve to cling to, to hold as a trailsign for my journey. I need to be able to look back when it gets hard or I want to sink low into the couch and never come back up and say, “no, I made a desicion, I’m determined for change, I will press on. I will not be overwhelmed.”
so whether you made resolutions or not, Happy New Year! And may God pour his grace on you in ways you couldn’t have imagined.
